Emilee and Carl had planned a trip to St. George over Kimee's Fall break. They were going to camp, but we suggested staying at Arlo and Janet's house in Santa Clara instead. They agreed.
We went down a day earlier than they did and enjoyed the morning in the St. George temple and the afternoon hiking. This is the trail to Scout Cave, which we never did find!
The minerals in the rocks or the water made all the rocks along this riverbed green.
It was a strange color of green too!

It was a little cooler than we had hoped. But it warmed up as the day went on.
The first day the kids were there it rained. So we decided to go see the Johnson Farm Dinosaur Museum.
It was a nice museum and the displays were well presented.
There was an area with all kinds of games and puzzles associated with dinosaurs.
The kids had a great time there!

It was fun to stay at Arlo's house. We read books.
and played pool!
We hiked Jenny's Canyon together. Kimee and Ethan did great and hardly complained at all. The twins also did really well in the backpacks. I don't see how Em and Carl can carry them, they are getting so big!

Snow Canyon
Red Rock Park. This park is almost right in town and was a fun place to have lunch and then
hike around. It was big enough and had interesting places for the kids to play, and it was close
enough to home that we didn't have to drive far!

There is this place where someone had made a home out of a slot in the canyon.
It started to rain and we took cover here.
The kids had so much fun climbing all over and through the rocks.
It seemed there was always a new place to discover and a new adventure to be had!

They were good little hikers and were willing to try just about anything--just to see if it could be done! And they DID IT!
This was the week the national parks were closed because of the government shutdown. We thought the State parks would be really busy as a result, but it wasn't bad at all. Governor Herbert paid to have the national parks open, so Em and Carl and the kids made the loop home through Zions and Bryce Canyon. We had to get back to Mapleton for our mission reunion, so we left and they stayed another day and a night and then made their way home. It was great fun and something we want to do again!
