When we arrived in Utah we were met by Em and Carl and their kids and Alison and Brandon and their kids. They were in Utah already for a job interview, so that worked out well. Andy and Abbey were unable to make it on such short notice. Emilee had them on the phone though so they got to hear what was happening. They had not told the kids they were going to the airport to pick us up. As we came down the escalator, I could hear Kimee and Elli saying, "There's Grandma! It's Grandma!" It was so wonderful to see them...words cannot adequately express the joy in our hearts at being reunited with our loved ones.
Elli and Kimee and Ethan were great about remembering us and not being afraid. The twins really didn't know us at all, and Brynnley was pretty scared of us. We wanted to go out somewhere to eat, but nobody wanted to go anyplace very fancy with the kids, so we settled on Carls Jr and decided on Spanish Fork. It felt so good to be home and see the beauty of the mountains and the place we live. It's so different than where we left. The kids had a great time playing in the play yard and the hamburger tasted almost as good as we had anticipated. The hamburgers in Mongolia don't even begin to compare. The french fries were a disappointment though. They just didn't taste as good as we anticipated!
Grandma rode home with the Berretts and by the time we left the airport Brynnley was over being scared.
The twins have probably changed the most since they were only 9 months old when we left. Jacob is such a happy boy and warmed up to us quickly. It took Bekah a little longer, but she eventually decided she liked Grandma and Grandpa. Maybe it had something to do with the ice cream cones we got at Macey's while getting a few groceries after eating our delicious hamburgers!
After 15 minutes with Kimee and Elli, it was almost like we had never been gone! We loved having them be so excited for our return. Not sure why there are no pictures of Ethan. Guess he was so busy playing that he never stopped long enough to have one taken!
After checking with the doctor who was supposed to know we were coming home and finding out he didn't know and it would be another 10 days before we could get in to see him, we decided to stay with the doctors in Utah Valley. We made several visits and it was determined that the blockage was not as bad as we had been told in Mongolia. In fact, the doctor said he was not sure why they were concerned enough to send us home! We were relieved that it was not as serious as anticipated. We were told he could not do anything and he would probably not have any problems in the next few years. However, if we wanted to return to Mongolia, he would need to have an ablation done, which basically cauterized that portion of the heart that was causing the short circuiting and the rapid heart rate. We decided we wanted to go back and finish our mission, so he had the surgery and everything went well.
