Catch up from Murun

Well, we haven't posted for about a month now because we have not had the internet.  Today we have access to a modem so I will try to make a quick update of what has been happening since we got here.

First,  our apartment.

Our apartment here seemed quite unusual when we first got here, but now it seems like home.  I was so amazed at the bathtub.  It sits on 4" cans to be high enough for the water to drain.  And the hot water heater is attached to the ceiling of the bathroom and has to be turned on about 45 minutes before taking a shower so it can heat up.  It then plays us a little tune so we know the water is hot.  It is hard to remember sometimes that we can't just jump in the shower any time we want.  Because the tub is on stilts it makes my head out 2 inches from the ceiling.  And the water from the water heater doesn't run uphill, so we had to kneel in the tub to wash hair until we found a stool that works really well.

Our living room is pretty large and has a nice clothes closet in it because the closet it too large for the bedroom.  So all of our clothes are stored in our living room.  It really isn't as inconvenient as it sounds.

This is our living room furniture.  It is pretty comfortable, but the seat seems a bit wide and we usually sit with two pillows behind us to make it more comfortable.

This is our huge kitchen!  We have about 3 feet of counter top space, but I can still make cupcakes for the baptisms and bread in the oven, which is really pretty nice, so I am happy.

Our bedroom.  The bed is actually a king-size bed, but our comforter and foam pad are only a queen.  It works OK and we are so grateful for the foam pad because the bed is like a box spring with no springs and is hard as a board.  Actually, it IS a board.  We love our foam pad.  It's amazing how grateful we are for the simplest of things here!

These are our sweet landlords.  The son speaks some English and has been very helpful in getting our toilet to work and getting us paint so that we can eventually paint the kitchen, if we ever get the time.

This is a long view of the City of Murun.  It is really a pretty city and I love the way the metal roofs are all different colors--blue, pink, red, orange, green and purple.
